Recruitment and hiring insights: March 2024

The recruitment industry is full of ups and downs, and we've certainly seen the rise and fall over the last few years! Every month, we keep a close eye on market conditions so that we can continue to provide the best advice and guidance to both the businesses and candidates that we work with.

The jobs market is usually a good indicator of wider economic activity and we've seen new vacancies in the South West down 9% in March from February. (source: LinkedIn; Reed; Indeed; Total Jobs).

Interestingly, we had a 40% increase in new vacancies at both Cathedral Appointments and CA Tech Talent. So while there are fewer jobs available, organisations looking for top talent continue to recruit.

We've also seen an increase in applications - up 19% in Q1 this year vs. Q1 last year. While some roles will always be difficult to fill, more candidates are certainly looking to make a career move.

We are very lucky to have such a good team here - our success rate continues to be industry-leading at 58% - believe it or not, the UK average for recruitment agencies is between 18%-20%!

Check back next month to see how the market shifts as we head into the summer.
