Finance Assistant Job Description
A Finance Assistant position is an entry-level position where you will take on a diverse range of tasks, which will enable you to grow your skillset. You will be responsible for cash receipts, purchase invoices, daily banking activities, petty cash and provide payroll support. General office duties can be expected in this role.
You will report into a Finance Manager and be part of a team managing financial tasks in the business. After a few years of experience, this role would progress to a Finance Manager.

The average salary for a Finance Assistant in the South West is around £25,000. This can range from £20,000 to £30,000 depending on factors like experience, location, industry and company size.

- Accurately record cash receipts, process sales and purchase invoices
- Assist with month-end closing, including accounting tasks, journals and reconciliations and prepare quarterly VAT returns
- Handle daily banking activities, maintain weekly cash flow, performing monthly bank reconciliations and manage petty cash
- Provide payroll support and maintain comprehensive records for commission statements and year-end accounts
- Perform general office tasks, including managing utilities, handling collection boxes and donations and maintain filing and archiving systems
- Prior experience in an accounting role, with experience using SAGE or similar accounting software
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle high work loads
- Strong IT stills, especially in Excel and MS Office, and understanding of SAGE 50 software
- Experience in VAT accounting, payroll and credit control with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to deliver effective communication and a willingness to learn
