The latest Jobs Outlook figures demonstrated some positive moves in employer confidence coming into February 2020. Confidence in the country’s economic condition had continued to improve over the last 3 months, coupled with continued confidence in individual organisations’ hiring and investment decisions. 

Short Term Job Outlook

This increase in confidence is also reflected in the below figures on hiring outlook. In both the short term and medium term, there is continued confidence in plans for hiring and ultimately workforce growth. This is a significant improvement on figures seen in the latter quarter of last year.

Economic Hiring Confidence

The latest figures also demonstrated the continued concerns on staff availability. 49% of employers have concerns over the ability to find the staff to fill their roles which is not a marked improvement on the 50% figure from last year. The areas in which these skills shortages are most concerning are health and social care, construction, and engineering and technical roles.

Cathedral Appointments Viewpoint

Our figures on new candidate placements are continuing to grow despite this being a highly candidate short market. There are still a good number of new vacancies with employers keen to grow their workforces, however, the impact of the Coranavirus is already affecting hiring plans so reports for March and April, we are certain, will show a different picture.

Jo joined Cathedral Appointments over 25 years ago and now leads the business alongside Clodagh, who joined the company in 2021.
